Arcade (MoshaCade)
The Moshacade Project was the original project of the bunch. During high school I was introduced to emulators. For all of you who are not privy to emulators, i will give you a short explination: It is software the emulates hardward. The emulator software will make your computer pretend that it is whatever hardward you are wanting. In my case it was the NES game console. From there I found other emulators, SEGA, SNES, N64, etc and the hobby sort of continued.
Around 2002, i had been using an emulator called MAME for a few years. Of all the other emulators I tried, I like mame trhe best for it's superior graphics, sounds, and HUGE library of games. See the link for more information. After playing it with the keyboard in front of my measly 15" CRT, I started dreaming up a way to play it like a "real" arcade game. Standing up! After a quick websearch, it ends up that many many other people had thought of this before me. So figuring out how to do it was a combination of research and just plain old trial and error. The arcade pictured below is actually the 2nd one I built. The first one weighed so much it took 3 grown men to carry it, that was without 23" TV inside of the unit! However i destroyed it before realizing "hey I should have taken a couple of pictures first...". This one weighs quite a bit less than the original and can easily be pushed around by one person.
Right now, moshacade is sitting in my basement acting as a print server. After a hardware upgrade to the PC that runs it, something went wrong and I have yet to find the time to repair it. Someday....
